Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery is a procedure designed to eliminate fluid and mucus retention in the lacrimal sac and improve tear drainage, providing relief from epiphora (excessive tearing or watery eyes).
During the procedure, a small portion of bone near the nasolacrimal sac is removed, allowing the lacrimal sac to connect with the lateral nasal mucosa. This creates a new drainage pathway, effectively bypassing the nasolacrimal duct obstruction and restoring normal tear flow.
DCR surgery is a highly effective solution for patients experiencing persistent watery eyes, recurrent infections, or discomfort due to blocked tear ducts.
